Our first visit to Ishinomaki takes us back 6 years ago to June of 2011, 3 months after 30 foot high tsunami waves struck the northern coast of Japan caused by a 9.0+ earthquake. Over 10,000 people were killed and many more were without their homes.
In our first visit we assisted a group of community elders empty a storage building in a housing area on the west side of the Kyuk/takami river where the river edge dropped by over 3 feet due to liquefaction of the soil. I revised this area today and it stirred memories and emotions. Here is my short video of the visit and below the video I first shot 6 years ago.
